Reube!
(Reube lazing in the Summer sun and playing and sleeping with her adopted brother Foxy)
Reube is one of those remarkable stories of trimpth against all the odds. We first found Reube and Thius (who we think may be her brother) at the side of a busy road in the blistering heat in August 2008. They were both so malnorished they were simply starving to death. They were also petrified of everyone but we just couldn't leave them there.
We took them to the ROLDA vet who thought they might stand a chance of puling through if given the right food and some time. We were doubtful and worried that we were putting them through so much considering how ill they were and the fact that they were literally scared of their own shadow.
Acting on the vets advice, Dana, Janet and myself took them back to the smaller ROLDA shelter where they remained for several months. Amazingly they grew stronger and stronger but sadly their mental scares were very evident, they could not be easily approached and therefore spent a lot of time in the kennel together.
In April they were moved to the FPCC shelter in Oradea where they stayed for another couple of months. Here they still showed no sign of improvement despite the staffs' efforts trying to socialise them. Jan (mum to Foxy) had always promised to give them a home if they pulled through and so in June this year, Lisa from 'All Dogs Rescue' and myself travelled to Romania and bought them back to the UK.
They have now been with Janet for almost a month and have become the dogs they were clearly destined to be. It's still early days but they now play happily in the garden together and/or with Foxy. They love to run (something they've not been able to do before), they eat good fresh food and are becoming more trusting by the day. We all have high hopes that they will continue to do well and live long healthy lives!
