Training Tips & Advice

First and foremost please remember that ALL rescue dogs take time to settle in (usually 2-4 weeks) and may act differently during the first few weeks in their new home due to stress and the introduction of new smells/sounds/food/routine etc. Some dogs may also need to be house-trained and all dogs will require DAILY exercise and fresh air!

Exercise and being taken for walks especially is so important.  It helps prevent anxiety and behavioural problems often developed through lack of exercise and/or boredom. It also helps the dog maintain a healthy weight and is a great way to bond with your dog and to share mutual respect.

We believe that dogs should be allowed to be dogs and not 'humanised' to suit our own needs.  That said, to co-exist in a home environment, there needs to be certain rules and boundaries in place so that humans and canines can live happily and peacefully together.

'Dog trainers' and 'dog behaviourists' will tell you all manor of different things about how to correct unwanted behaviour and ensure your dog is complient and understands basic 'human' commands like Sit, Stay etc.  The amount of information out there can be bewildering and there are many conflicting opinions.

We recommend reading one of the books written by Cesar Millan who recommends a more natural approach.  Of particular note is his book 'Cesar's Way' available online or in most large bookshops.

Happy Reading!!
